Mission
AAC | Austrian Association of Curators is a platform for curatorial professionals, discourse, and methods. Open to independent and institutionally affiliated curators, as well as researchers and artists working with the curatorial, the association’s purpose is to support, promote, and reflect the curatorial practice and dispositive. It aims to do so by exploring contemporary dynamics and self-conceptions of the curatorial profession, and as a result, improve working conditions. It furthermore intends to provide information on curatorial (infra-) structures in Austria — including practical survival kits, best practice models, and funding opportunities. AAC acts as a network for members and is interested in reaching out to heterogeneous audiences. In doing so, the visibility and understanding of the curatorial will increase beyond the specialized / institutionalized realm. AAC undertakes curatorial research projects, exhibitions, and other public formats, through which it fosters critical reflection on curatorial work. Among current topics relevant to the association is the exploration of curatorial histories in and beyond Austria, with a focus on transcultural and migratory perspectives as well as rethinking of the legal, socio-political and -economic position of curators of arts and discourse.
